About Kaytie

Hello, my name is Kaytie! I’m a Disney scholar, new mom, academic adviser, and fan of Disney villains. I graduated with my Masters of Arts in Cultural Studies degree last year and shortly after became pregnant and had my first child during the onset of COVID. I have a passion as a Disney scholar and researcher to facilitate courageous conversations around the lack of representation of marginalized communities in Disney protagonist characters and address the over representation of marginalized communities in Disney villain characters. Despite my critical reflection and critique of Disney animated movies I love to watch Disney animated movies for entertainment with my husband who is also a fan of Disney. In the future I hope to bridge the lack of enthusiasm for professional development and diversity workshops in the workplace with the inclusion of Disney character identities and stereotypes to reengage individuals on the importance of diversity conversations in everyday life. My ultimate goal is to teach a diversity elective class on Disney animated films and characters to further discuss the biases, stereotypes, and lack of diverse representation Disney animated films have created over the past 70+ years.

Hopefully this blog and social media pages will help me organize my thoughts to one day reach my goals. In the meantime feel free to sit back and enjoy reading all the things I have to say. I hope it doesn’t ruin your opinions and memories of Disney but rather makes you question and engage in conversations about Disney.
